A Brief History: Necessity is the mother of invention – a maxim that all good ideas are founded upon. And this is certainly true for ioWorld and its founders, Alan and Alistair. They originally talked about their first idea (SideNotes) back in 2005 which at the time sounded like one of those really cool things that would change the world and spent the best part of the next 2 years getting the product specified, patented and built – all in their spare time! It was quite a learning curve and when things started moving, ioWorld was born. We decided to get the ball rolling with Photeleon. A very simple and elegant application that does something really useful (if you haven’t tried it yet, then you really should do – like all our software, it’s FREE to try). Photeleon’s functional simplicity also meant that it was simple to build and hence we could afford to make it without any external investment. The poetic beauty of Photeleon is that it distinguishes itself from the competition by virtue of its simplicity. Whilst other players in this market are rich in features (they are always trying to be the first with some new thing or another!), Photeleon focuses on providing only the most essential features, but doing them extremely well and tapping into a completely new way of working (a radical idea from a marketing perspective!). Nonetheless, going through this process made it quite clear to us that we were only interested in software that was both really simple and really useful – and then our mission statement was born. At ioWorld we have had lots of ideas; some which have made it through to the development queue and many that have ended up in the bin. But the single thing that has made the company turn into something tangible has been persistence. Without that, even the best idea in the world would be reduced to an item on someone’s’ to-do list.
